Okay, so I looked into another career option today and got it pushed back into my face. Yes, most likely it was a long shot but can you blame me, heres the scoop…Big telecommunications company called Acme Packet, they sell session border controllers (if you don’t know what it is check it out on wikipedia, I did). I have relative who works there and makes some pretty serious dough from what I understand, of course he is an engineer but I thought it might be a foot in the door. Wrong…he talked to a HR manager who told him they were only looking for people with 10+ years of experience. 10 Years? Jesus! You would think that a growing company would be enticed by fresh-MBAs with a hunger to start a successful career. And I’m sure they know that they can pay us in peanuts, but Its not enough for them to take a chance.
I guess thats the problem today with my generation, people think we have everything handed to us and don’t trust us far as they can throw us. Bottom line is that I do not want to quintessential first real-job. A desk 40 hours a weeks sounds pretty bland to me, let me get out and talk with people, personal sales will never die in my opinion. Some one must be looking for young buck like me, I just don’t know who. I have half a mind to start my own business, higher on fresh, highly-driven freethinkers and watch the 45 year old salesmen wonder how we did it.
I have a few ideas, but no capital. Back to the drawing board for today…
p.s. I’m looking for a web designer, there are few ideas I would like to discuss with them for a start-up, leave a comment if you find this and are interested in hearing possibilities.
I wont get my hopes up though as I have yet to network this blog very well. Maybe I’ll take some tips from julia allison.
finding that first job out of school is really really tough. and everyone always wants experience. well where in the world do you expect me to get that experience??? aagggghhh. all I can say is be patient, do your research, and get the magical connection that will get you a “first job”. and then you can be a little more picky in a few years. sad truth but it’s the way the game works
